My Life In A Sea of Butterflies

Yes, butterflies. Before Christmas my sister, Sasha, approached me to help her with a ginormous order of handmade butterflies, which she had already been working on for around two months. We both started out thinking that I would just be helping her for a little while… It took over three weeks. In the end my other sister even ended up helping us out a bit. We shipped off over 7,200 butterflies. Talk about work! They went to a company called Studio Calico for their February scrapbooking kit. Here’s a picture from their website. Strawberry the Elephant

My Friend Alex gave me this sweet little elephant that she’d made as a birthday present. :)

Birthday Cake

A made a two-layer cake based off of a recipe called “Lemon Cheese Cake”. It’s called that, even though it isn’t actually a cheesecake—nor does it contain cheese.

I put some of my homemade lemon curd between the layers (yum!); and decorated it with vanilla whipped cream and coconut.

Persimmon Jam

This jam is way too acidic for me! The recipe called for a lot of lemon juice. I used some in place of the citrus in a cheesecake and that helped a lot. :)

I do love how colorful it is, though! :)

Thanksgiving 2011

Oh, the table was decked in finery and laden with sparkling juice and cider, sweets, sides, and turkey. Not everything that was made was put on the table; but this shows a good bit of it. My contribution was a couple of pies. :)

Apple Butter Hand Pies

I used a single pie crust, homemade apple butter, with butter and cinnamon sugar on top, and baked them on 375 F for 22-23 min. Yum! :)

Our Snowy Day

Today was our first snowy day this fall. They fell in great big wet flakes. It was so beautiful. It is warm enough though, that whatever snow is left at this point (if there is indeed any) will probably vanish soon. I am alright with that. I am hoping for a mild winter; but I enjoyed the peaceful snow today.
